Mondrian Art Works

The artist, Piet Mondrian, is well known for his abstract paintings.  He used the primary colours to fill some of the rectangular and square shapes created by black lines.  With a few blocks of white, the artworks are very eye-catching.  Here are our interpretations -

Travel Talks by Balram, Ethan, Natalya and Ana

We have thoroughly enjoyed listening to the fascinating talks given by everyone. The wonderful photos and interesting captions have been captivating and we have all learned more about the various destinations that were featured.

Balram visited his family in India and attended a wedding there.
Ethan spent a month in China and he visited many places.

Natalya was lucky as she visited two wonderful places - Fiji and the Gold Coast.
Ana was so enthusiastic about sharing her travel tales so she had a second opportunity to share.  She showed us the photos from her trip to Taupo where she took part in a 5km cycle race.

Outstanding Students - Ana and Caleb

Ana and Caleb were awarded merit certificates at our final assembly.  Caleb was the top academic achiever in Room 5 and Ana received hers for citizenship.  Bravo and three cheers to our worthy prize winners!!!

Funtime Lunchtime

This annual event always lives up to the huge air of expectation it exudes. With bags of coins our class descended on the Junior,  Middle and Senior school playground areas.  They were enticed by a wide variety of stalls selling chocolates, cakes, cookies, ice-blocks and lollies.

There were also many opportunities to try out some fun activities and games with the chance of winning a lolly as well.  Face painting tables also abounded and the children looked great with their adornments. With so many delights and choices of things to do, everyone had a marvellous time!

Our Jump Jam Christmas Assembly and Mufti Day

We had a black and red mufti day to raise monies for Redcliffs School in Christchurch.  We hope the monies raised help them to get their school back again soon. They are still in a host school awaiting the time when their school is safe enough to return. Charlotte and her sister used to go to Redcliffs school.

Our final Junior assembly was a Christmas Jump Jam display and we all wore Christmas hats or headbands with trimmings of tinsel.  It was great having many parents there to enjoy the time with us and they also joined us for the last dance item.

Mr Whippy

Its the third day of summer and to celebrate the wonderful weather we had yet another special treat on our school calendar.  Mr Whippy arrived after morning tea and we were first in line to receive a delicious vanilla, soft serve ice-cream!  With rainbow sprinkles, the ice-creams on a cone were not only mouth-watering to look at but also to taste!  We most certainly felt very lucky to have had an ice-cream van visit us at school.

Goodbye and Thank You to Mrs Blakeman

Mrs Blakeman came to visit us today so that we could give her the lovely cards we had made and so that we could give her a send-off for the holidays.  She read us a story and enjoyed watching us munch on popcorn.  Then we showed her our favourite song by Anna Kendrick called "When I'm Gone" (The Cup Song).  Mrs Blakeman spoilt all of us by treating us to a cute Christmas card and a very special Christmas decoration which we'll treasure!  We'll all be putting our Christmas trees up from Sunday, the 1st December so they will look sparkly and pretty hanging up.  They are a treasured memento - thanks, Mrs B!

Travel Talks

Many thanks to Hannah, Shion and Jayden for their excellent presentations.  Hannah told us about the wonderful holiday she spent with her grandparents in Singapore.  It was hot there and they had lots of fun at the water park as well as some shopping centres.  Her grandparents have a wonderful view of the city from their house.  Hannah and her family also enjoyed the Singapore Science Centre.

Shion visited his grandparents, extended family and friends in Japan in July.  They had a wonderful trip and one of the best memories was a wonderful day spent in Tokyo Disneyland.  That was a wonderful talk, Shion!  You read all the captions and we loved looking at all the photos of you and your brothers having so much fun!

When Jayden went over to Sydney in October he and his family attended a wedding.  Jayden looked so smart dressed up in his suit and he also got to wear a crown and looked like a king.  He saw the Sydney Opera House and visited Taronga Zoo where they saw many species of animals as well as a tiger.  They also enjoyed visiting Madame Tussauds, the wax museum where Jayden posed as a Wolverine and also got to climb into a racing car!  It was a really interesting talk and Jayden wrote his own captions.

Classroom Walk-Through

This is one of the traditions at our school - once a year we take a walk through the classes to view the marvellous works of art and stimulating learning environments.  Every classroom looked stunning and we were most impressed by the wonderful work and pieces of art in every room.  There were also interesting displays and some great additions like fish tanks and comfy furniture.
