Travel Bugs - Benjamin, Rochelle and Georgia

We love listening to our Friday Travel Talks!  Benjamin had a marvellous trip to Christchurch where he and his family enjoyed the snow.
He also enjoyed a holiday to the Gold Coast where they went to all the theme parks and had a great time.
Rochelle and her family enjoyed a beach holiday at Ohope Beach which is in the Bay of Plenty.  They could see White Island from there.
They enjoyed going to a water park too.
Georgia had a wonderful time at Awhitu which is a peninsula on the Manukau Harbour and on the west coast.  Their cousins came along too and everyone had so much fun taking walks, playing tennis and being together.
They also took a drive to the Manukau Heads Lighthouse and they even cooked a dish, Master Chef style!!

Busy Balram

Balram is our Star Student.  He is always helpful and kind.  We all enjoy having him in our class and he is a happy, friendly and sensible boy.  Great job, Balram!

Green Fingers

This is the time of the year for planting and sowing seeds.  We planted some sunflower seeds and were astounded at how quickly they have sprouted.  They must like our warm and sunny classroom.  Soon we'll take them home and transplant them in a garden bed.  They are sure to grow very tall and be a pretty sight.

Our Travel Bugs

We have three travel scrapbooks that have been started this term.  Each of us will have a turn to take one of the books home so that we can add some photos and text telling us about a trip we have been on.  This not only give us an opportunity to do a speech and present to the class, but we all get to find out more about places in New Zealand and in other countries.

An added bonus is we get to locate these wonderful places on Google Earth and it's great having a bird's eye view of the place as well as a street view.  We sure are learning a great deal.

Here is Ella sharing of her regular trips to National Park where her family have a house.  We enjoyed seeing photos of the big carrot at Ohakune, some beautiful waterfalls and photos of the snow covered mountains - Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe.
That was so interesting, Ella!
Charlotte told us all about her big move from Christchurch to Auckland.  While she travelled by plane with her mum, her younger brother and big sister, her dad and big brother drove up by car.  They crossed the Cook Strait on a ferry and were lucky enough to see some dolphins.
Caleb wrote his own notes!  He told us all about the wonderful holiday he had in Rarotonga.
They spent lots of time at the beach and also enjoyed exploring the beautiful tropical island.

The ASB Getwise Programme

We had a visit by Evan Holland this week.  Not only did he keep us completely engrossed by his wonderful costume and  interactive activities, but he also taught us that it is important to look after our money and to save some.

Making Bread and Butter

There is nothing like a fresh slice of bread with lashings of butter melting into it!!  Well, that's exactly what we enjoyed on Friday.  Mrs Shewring used her bread making machine to bake a crusty loaf of bread.  It smelled really delicious when we got in from our time in the ICT suite.  That was at lunchtime so the bread had a chance to cool down a little.

When we got back to class, Mrs S showed us how to make butter by beating cream until it was very thick.  The cream started turning yellow and making blobs of butter.  There was a lot of buttermilk which we poured away and soon the butter was all ready for us to spread on our fresh slices of bread.  We all agreed that it tasted as good as it smelled!
