St John Safe Kids Programme

Learning about emergencies and being "Safe Kids" was the theme of today's talk.  We were lucky to have Sue, from St John, come to our school to talk to us and to give us opportunities to do some hands-on exploring.  Sue demonstrated the different siren noises used by five types of emergency vehicles and showed us how an oxygen mask worked.  She also dressed Caleb and Anna up as paramedics who travel in the ambulance and who wear distinctive clothing.  We heard about their roles and the equipment they need.  We practiced being paramedics ourselves by treating a 'patient' who had been hurt and applying a bandage on their arm or leg.  This was a really authentic learning session and we were all totally absorbed and eager to take home the bag of goodies we received to show and tell at home.
