Yeast Experiment
As part of their learning about bread making and using yeast to make the dough rise, Mr Rankin showed the children an experiment using yeast. The children helped him to place yeast into a bottle, followed by sugar and water. Lastly a balloon was placed over the lip of the bottle. The sugar and yeast mixture caused a chemical reaction and bubbles of air began to rise up and inflate the balloon. This gave the children a clear understanding of the process taking place within the dough, causing the bread to rise and have lots of air bubbles throughout.
